African Institute for Capacity Development Benchmarking Visit
A delegation of three officials from the African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD) visited the University of Embu to benchmark on TVET teaching and training modalities, best practices and approaches. The delegation was led by the Executive Director/CEO, Prof. James Njiru, and comprised the Training and Extension Director, Mr. Patrick Wakhu, and Assistant Training and Outreach Officer, Mr. Ivan Omondi.
The delegation was received by the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Research and Extension, Prof. Paul Nthakanio, and the Principal, UoEm TVET Institute, Dr. Ann Waruita.
The two teams held a consultative meeting at the Senate Boardroom, where they exchanged insights on TVET training, curriculum delivery, practical skills development and industry-oriented teaching approaches. The engagement was followed by a tour of facilities at the UoEm TVET Institute to gain first-hand experience of the University’s practical training infrastructure and innovative initiatives.
During the tour, the delegation visited facilities in the Catering and Hospitality Department, Automotive Engineering Workshop, Mobile Phone and Electronic Devices Assembly Unit, Building and Construction Workshop, and the Black Soldier Fly Project. The benchmarking visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to share experiences, identify areas of mutual learning and explore opportunities for strengthening TVET training and capacity development.
