Nursing Council of Kenya Institutional Assessment

The University of Embu on Friday, 24th July, 2026, hosted a two-member delegation from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) for an institutional assessment and routine compliance inspection of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme. The delegation, comprising the Head of Nursing Standards, Dr. Anne Mukuna, and Ms. Violet Mbeyu Nzaro, was received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Research and Extension, Prof. Paul Nthakanio, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Daniel Mugendi.

The delegation held discussions with members of the Faculty of Nursing before undertaking a comprehensive inspection of the University’s teaching and learning facilities, including nursing skills laboratories, lecture rooms, and other practical training environments. The assessment evaluated the University’s compliance with the Nursing Council of Kenya’s standards for nursing education and professional training, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to delivering quality nursing education and producing competent healthcare professionals.

During the visit, the University presented its case for an increase in the student admission quota for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme in the forthcoming intake. Citing its expanded infrastructure, well-equipped teaching and skills laboratories, adequate clinical training facilities, and qualified academic staff, the University requested the Nursing Council of Kenya to consider allocating additional student slots to enable it to train more nursing professionals while continuing to uphold the Council’s prescribed quality standards.
