UoEm welcomes first cohort of M-PESA foundation-UoEm TVET Institute Scholarship Students

The University of Embu (UoEm) officially welcomed the first cohort of 400 students under the M-PESA Foundation–University of Embu TVET Insitute Scholarship Programme during a ceremony held on Thursday, 30th October 2025, at the University Auditorium Hall.
The beneficiaries are drawn from ten counties across Kenya Counties in Kenya, namely; Embu, Nyandarua, Homa Bay, Turkana, Meru, Nairobi, Nyamira, Murang’a, Busia, and Nakuru. The students have been admitted on full scholarship to pursue skills-based TVET courses in Cosmetology, Repair and Maintenance of Portable and Mobile Devices, Repair and Maintenance of Two- and Three-Wheeled Motorcycles, and Building and Construction. The scholarship covers tuition fees, a monthly stipend, and tools of trade upon graduation. The initiative is aimed at promoting self-reliance and entrepreneurship among Kenyan youth.
Speaking during the event, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Daniel Mugendi, lauded the partnership with M-PESA foundation as a “transformative investment in the future of Kenya’s youth.” The milestone underscores the University’s continued leadership in industry collaboration and youth empowerment.
