
Prof. Daniel Mugendi Njiru, has received yet another award for his exemplary leadership and commitment to performance excellence. The Award was conferred during the 2025 End-of-Year Public Service Reflection Dinner and Agenda-Setting Retreat held on Friday, 5th December, 2025 at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, Kenya. The Ceremony aimed at recognizing excellence in public service while reinforcing high standards of performance, accountability, and integrity across government institutions.
Prof. Mugendi was recognized for adherence to the Foundational Statutes and the Principles of Good Governance (Mwongozo) in the Execution of the Core Mandate and Governance of the University of Embu. He was further commended for his far-reaching contributions to public service transformation and his unwavering commitment to institutional excellence. The Retreat was hosted by the Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei.
Under his leadership, the University of Embu has flourished, marking unprecedented milestones in academic growth, innovation, and student success. As Chairman of the Public Universities Vice-Chancellors’ Committee, Prof. Mugendi continues to inspire higher education institutions nationwide, advocating for policies that strengthen governance, sustainability, and the impact of higher education on society.

Prof. Mugendi is not just a leader, he is a trailblazer inspiring the next generation of scholars, researchers and public servants. This award underscores his exemplary leadership, steadfast commitment to good governance, and the impactful stewardship that he continues to provide at both the University of Embu and the national level through his role as the Chairman of the Vice-Chancellors’ Committee.
The Chief Guest at the event was the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, Hon. John Mbadi. Also present were other Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, legislators, leaders of Constitutional Commissions, Independent Offices, State Corporations, and public servants from across the country.
