The University of Embu has partnered with Jacob’s Ladder Africa (JLA) to equip young people with green skills and prepare them for opportunities in the green economy as part of a national initiative to tackle youth unemployment and promote climate-smart innovation. Through this collaboration, the University hosted the Green Career Day, on Tuesday, 28th October 2025, at the University’s Tentatorium Hall, under the Green Careers Caravan (GCC), a five-year initiative supported by 15 public universities, the Vice-Chancellors’ Committee, and the State Department for Higher Education.
In his keynote address, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Daniel Mugendi, emphasized the need to equip graduates with the right skills and mindset to lead Kenya’s transition to a sustainable economy. JLA Co-Founder & CEO, Ms. Sellah Bogonko, urged students to take charge of their careers in the green economy and create opportunities for themselves, while Ms. Manda Khabetsa, Chief Communications and Advocacy Officer at JLA, moderated engaging discussions on innovation and sustainability.
The event reaffirmed the University’s commitment to youth empowerment, innovation, and environmental stewardship in Kenya and beyond.
