The University of Embu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ecospray Limited, United Kingdom. Ecospray is an International Biopesticide Company based in the UK. The company has developed and registered an extract of garlic as a pesticide with registrations on a range of crops in over 15 countries globally.
The MoU was signed at a brief ceremony held in the University of Embu Senate Boardroom on Wednesday, 19th October 2022. The event was attended by the Ecospray Limited, UK, CEO, Mr. Peter McDonald, Technical Director Dr. Murree Groom and East Africa Regional Manager, Mr. Lee Kaigai.
The UoEm team was led by DVC ARE, Prof. Kiplagat Kotut who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Daniel Mugendi, members of the University Management, Dean, School of Agriculture, Dr. Samuel Ndirangu and other UoEm officials. The visit was coordinated by the Water & Agricultural Resource Management Lecturer, Dr. Benard Gichimu, who was present during the visit.
The MoU is expected to play a key role in fostering research and dissemination of knowledge on sustainable management of crop pests and diseases using organic products. This will ensure provision of many non-chemical pesticides for use by the farmers to enhance the safety of our food products.
