Ascending the digital throne and the intricacies of webometrics ranking

During the January 2023 Webometrics Edition released on Tuesday, 31st January 2023, the University of Embu (UoEm) was ranked 12 out of 125 institutions in Kenya.  Previously, the University was ranked position 13 in the July 2022 Edition. The January 2023 Edition was based on three indicators:

  • Visibility,
  • Transparency
  • Scholarly Excellence.

Visibility looks at the number of external networks (subnets) linking to the institution’s webpages. Transparency refers to an institution`s top cited researchers’ and evaluates the citations from the top 310 authors. Excellence is determined by top cited papers amongst the top 10% publications most cited in each one of the 27 disciplines of the Scimago database (https://www.scimagojr.com/). The next ranking will be released at the end of July 2023. Dr. Faith Mueni, the University Website Coordinator, and  members of the University Community (https://www.embuni.ac.ke/) are working tirelessly to ensure that the University excels  in the subsequent webometrics rankings.
