Dr. Josephine Ngunjiri, a senior lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences Department at the University of Embu has been awarded the 2023 Researcher of the Year Award. She holds a PhD in Tropical and Infectious Diseases from the University of Nairobi.
Dr Njunjiri was previously ranked as the second-best researcher at the University of Embu by AD Scientific index in 2022 and 2023. In the last ranking she was number 2 at University of Embu, 62 in Kenya, 1500 in Africa and 168825 in the world. She is also the most cited researcher at the University of Embu with 64757 google scholar citations as of 21st December 2023. Her work is widely published in high impact journals such as the Lancet whose current impact factor stands at 168.9.
Currently, Dr Ngunjiri’s research interests are; Global Burden of Diseases (GBD), injuries and risk factors, insecticide resistant malaria as well as neglected tropical diseases such as Tungiasis and Schistosomiasis. In particular, Dr Ngunjiri is recognized for her work on Tungiasis, that is, jigger infestation.
