UoEm & AICAD MoU

The University of Embu and the African Institute for Capacity Development officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday, 14th May 2026, during a ceremony held at the Institute’s headquarters located within Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

The signing ceremony was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Embu, Prof. Daniel Mugendi, and the Executive Director of African Institute for Capacity Development, Prof. James Njiru. The partnership marks a significant milestone in strengthening institutional collaboration aimed at advancing capacity development, academic excellence, and socio-economic transformation within the region.

The MoU seeks to enhance cooperation in areas of training, research, innovation, and community development through joint programmes, knowledge exchange, and collaborative initiatives between the two institutions. The partnership is also expected to promote staff and student engagement in research and development activities geared towards sustainable development and poverty alleviation.

Speaking during the event, both institutions underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in addressing emerging societal challenges through capacity building and wealth creation initiatives. The collaboration further positions the University of Embu as a key stakeholder in regional development programmes championed by African Institute for Capacity Development.

The African Institute for Capacity Development is a regional institution mandated to promote poverty reduction through human resource capacity development and wealth creation. Established in the year 2000 with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the institution operates as an intergovernmental organization jointly supported by the governments of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Currently, AICAD collaborates with more than 13 universities across the region, with the University of Embu recognized as a pioneer member institution in the partnership network
